Liverpool are back as
favourites in the race to sign Virgil Van Dijk according to the latest odds
from SkyBet.
The Reds are 7/4 favourites, ahead of
Manchester City who are at 5/2.
Southampton are at 5/2 to keep hold of Van Dijk.
This is a change from 24 hours earlier, when Liverpool had
drifted out to 3/1 and Manchester City were 5/4 favourites, according to HITC reported.
Liverpool had been hot
favourites to sign Van Dijk from Southampton, before the Saints threatened to
report them to the Premier League for making an illegal approach to the
player.
In response Liverpool issued
a statement apologising
to Southampton and declaring they had pulled out of the running.
Yet these latest odds offer hope that a move for Van Dijk could
yet be resurrected.
If Manchester City are unwilling to make a move themselves and
Van Dijk insists he wants out, Liverpool could become the most logical route
out of the club.
The transfer window has not even officially opened, let alone
closed, so there could be a lot left to run in this one and a U-turn from
Liverpool can't be ruled out.
