ARE ARSENAL SET TO BEAT TOTTENHAM TO THE SIGNING OF MONACO’S THOMAS LEMAR?

Arsenal are thought to be on the verge of pipping north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of highly-rated midfielder Thomas Lemar.
The Monaco star has been heavily linked with Spurs this summer, but The Sun have quoted a tweet from the verified Twitter account of sports writer Amy Christophers, which says the Frenchman is set to snub White Hart Lane in favour of the Emirates.
That claim is backed up by SkyBet, who currently have the Gunners as odds-on favourites to capture Lemar’s signature.
Losing out to Arsenal would be a bitter blow to Pochettino, who has yet to add to a squad that secured the runners-up spot last season – their highest ever Premier League finish.
Spurs are among a plethora of clubs across Europe who have been closely monitoring Lemar’s progress, with L’equipe reporting last month that they had been in contact with his representatives.
However, it now appears that Wenger has stolen a march on Pochettino as he looks to add real quality to Arsenal, with the primary aim of getting the club back into the Champions League.

It’s not difficult to see why Lemar has attracted so much attention. Monaco were the surprise package of European football last season, winning the Ligue 1 title and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
The scintillating and free-scoring football they produced won legions of admirers. Lemar was a crucial component of their success with 14 goals in all competitions and plenty more assists.
Spurs fans will not need reminding that he netted the winning goal at Wembley, which eliminated them from the Champions League.

Lemar’s form for Monaco has helped him break into the national team and he is symbolic of the conveyer belt of talent that France is producing.
Wenger has money at his disposal this summer and looks intent on brining in several big names, which would no doubt be music to the ears of the club’s supporters, some of whom have criticised his reluctance to spend big in the past.
Lemar is under contract at Monaco until 2020, but there is a growing belief that the Gunners could make an irresistible offer to land their man.
