Hazard suffered the injury in a training ground
accident on Sunday, while away on international duty with Belgium.
The 26-year-old underwent surgery on Monday and
is expected to be sidelined for the next six to eight week.
Hazard is set to miss the start of the new
Premier League season, which gets underway on August 12.
However, the Belgian has maintained a positive
outlook and took to social media on Monday afternoon to thank his fans for
their support.
He said: 'Everything went well with my ankle operation,
now I start the road to recovery! I will be stronger. Thank you for your
support everyone!!'
Hazard has been linked with a summer move to
Real Madrid after rediscovering his best form with Chelsea last season.
The Belgian winger scored 17 goals in all
competitions as Antonio Conte's side claimed the Premier League title at a
canter.
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez will now have to
cope with the loss of his captain as his side prepare to face Czech Republic in
a friendly on Monday night.
The Red Devils will then take on Estonia in a
