NEW ZEALAND TENNIS PLAYER MICHAEL VENUS PROGRESSES TO FRENCH OPEN SEMIFINAL

Kiwi tennis player Michael Venus has broken a French Open drought.
Venus has become the first New Zealand player to progress to the semifinal stage of the French Open in 22 years.
The 29-year-old and his American partner Ryan Harrison have made the doubles semifinals at the French Open this morning after a rain delayed contest.
They defeated the seventh seed Ivan Dodig (Croatia) and Marcel Granollers (Spain) 6-2 3-6 6-3 in one hour 31 minutes after a rain delayed match.

It is the first time a New Zealand male has made the doubles semifinals of a Grand Slam since Brett Steven and American Tommy Ho reached the last four at the French Open in 1995.
The win is also significant for Venus' overall career as it will push inside the top 30 in the world from his current ranking of 39.

Venus and Harrison will face 16th seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah from Colombia for a place in the final.
