Hey, apparently it’s an international break! The end of the club
football season in Europe’s biggest leagues means that this break isn’t nearly
as nerve-wracking or annoying as the mid-season iterations, and if you’re like
me, you hardly even noticed.
Regardless, there are important matches happening, and wouldn’t
you know it? Some Liverpoolplayers are involved. The most notable
contribution by a Red was actually in orange, as Georginio Wijnaldum slotted home a goal for the
Netherlands against a hapless Luxembourg side in this World Cup qualifier.
Gini scored the third goal, as the Dutch trotted off 5-0 winners on the day.
Was it a home match? You betcha. The result didn’t help the Dutch that much, as
they are still third in the group, three points behind Sweden and France.
A trio of Liverpool players made the trip to Tallinn, Estonia—Ragnar Klavan for
the home side, and Divock Origi and Simon Mignolet for
the visiting Belgians—in their World Cup qualifier. Klavan played the full 90 minutes,
whereas the other two were unused subs. Belgium, unsurprisingly, are running
away with the group, whereas Estonia, equally unsurprisingly, are fifth of the
six teams.
Moving to South America, Philippe Coutinho could not prevent Brazil from losing
to arch rival Argentina 1-0 at home in a friendly. That’s OK, Phil, save those
goals for the Champions League.
Is it August yet?
