Alexis Sanchez has tipped Alex
Iwobi for greatness. Here are three reasons why the Chilean would be the
perfect mentor for the Arsenal youngster if he were to stay.
Alexis Sanchez has had his say on who he feels can
develop into a shining light in the Arsenal squad. For the Chilean, he
sees Alex Iwobi as a player who has all the talent to
excel, heralding his technical ability, his skill in one-on-one situations and
his intelligence on the ball. Iwobi is certainly a wonderfully gifted player,
but he needs patience and drive to fulfil his potential.
After highlighting his natural talent, here are three
reasons why, if he were to stay in North London, Sanchez would be the perfect
mentor for Iwobi.
3. Extensive experience
When
developing as a talented, young player, you are a big fish in a small pond. You
will be the best player of those who you grew up with, the best in your school
and perhaps one of the best in your local region and academy. But then,
suddenly, you are shafted into a squad who have all been the best players of
their local community growing up. Suddenly, you are no longer the big fish.
Mentally, that can be
a very difficult and demanding change to deal with. That is why having players
of great experience and know-how to guide you through your development is
invaluable. There are few players in the Arsenal squad that have as rich and
varied experience as Sanchez.
He has played in
Italy, Spain and England, alongside and against some of the very best players
in footballing history. He has won La Liga titles, FA Cups and Copa Americas.
He has played in different cultures in teams with different vastly styles and
approaches. The knowledge and the wisdom that could impart on Iwobi would be
extremely valuable and influential as the young midfielder tries to establish
himself in the first-team squad.
