Liverpool have resurfaced the Anfield pitch as they prepare for a return to Europe's top table next season.
The Reds secured
a place in the Champions League next term with a fourth-placed finish in this
year's Premier League - but will have to qualify in their
bid to reach the group stages.
And the Anfield hierarchy are seemingly giving themselves the
best chance possible by relaying the playing surface at the famous old ground.
Liverpool jetted off to Sydney for a post-season tour following
the conclusion of the campaign, but with the transfer window fast approaching,
new faces are not far from the thoughts of those on Merseyside
Virgil van Dijk is one of the Reds' targets, and they have
received a boost in their hunt for the £50million-rated centre-half.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are locked in a
four-way battle for Southampton’s Dutch defender with Antonio Conte’s
newly-crowned champions believed to be in pole position.
But it is understood that Liverpool have a genuine chance of
doing a deal because van Dijk is attracted by the proposition of playing for
Klopp.
Klopp is ready to make it clear that he will make van Dijk his
defensive kingpin, that he can become a Kop legend and that he is the only
centre half he is interested in this summer.
It will be a hard sell from Liverpool and, with the bonus of
Champions League football, they hope they can lure him to Merseyside.
