Liverpool take on Leeds
In the sole game of Sunday afternoon, Liverpool travel to Elland Road to take out Leeds United. The Reds have taken seven points from their opening three encounters this season, having swept aside Burnley and Norwich before being held to a 1-1 draw against 10 man Chelsea.
Although they will feel they probably should have beaten the London side at Anfield given their man advantage for half of the game, they remain unbeaten, and will look to extend this against a Leeds United side that are yet to win this season and sit one place above the relegation zone.
A win by more than three goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side would take them top of the table by virtue of goal difference, but there is added incentive for a certain winger to find the back of the net.
What would a goal mean?
Were Mohammed Salah to net in Liverpool’s encounter with Leeds United this afternoon, he would become the fifth fastest man to reach 100 goals in Premier League history. The prolific wide man currently has 99 in his 161 appearances in the league, including 2 in 13 for Chelsea, his former club.
Salah would enter the ranks behind four out and out strikers, and four of the greatest in Premier League history, in the forms of Alan Shearer (100 in 124 games), Harry Kane (141 appearances), Sergio Aguero (147 appearances) and Thierry Henry (160 appearances).
It is impressive company, and even more so when you consider the fact that Salah is a winger by trade, something that makes the feat even more astonishing. Now 29 years old, how many more years at the top does the Egyptian have, and how do Liverpool even begin trying to replace him when his time to depart does come?
